Dear fellow cyclist,

Welcome to the future home of Bike Safe Los Angeles! It's not quite ready, but we have big plans for this site. Here's more about how you can help make it happen.

Coming soon:

Law explanations

Graphics illustrating the bike laws in your state plus brief, plain English summaries of what each law means for you on the road. Think of the illustrations on the back of the Bike Accident Report cards, but on a much larger scale.

Law comparisons

Raising awareness is key to better bike laws in Los Angeles. Law comparisons will show how the bike laws in your state stack up against those that other states have passed. This way, you'll see not only what your laws are, but also what they can be.

Grassroots advocacy in the biking community effects change: for example, Massachusetts has made it illegal for a driver to "right hook" a cyclist, and Connecticut drivers must give cyclists 3 feet of space while passing. Together, we can keep seeing success.

Local advocacy

After education, ACTION. The "law comparisons" page connects you to the bike advocacy organizations in your state. We'll fill you in on what they're trying to accomplish and how you can help. By learning about how we can benefit from better legislation, everyday bikers become bike advocates.

And that's the plan! However, we're a (very) small operation, so hang tight.

In the meantime, follow me on Twitter for updates.

Yours,

Josh Zisson
